Travelling to Liège

  • By plane

From Brussels National Airport (Zaventem)

  • Most international flights arrive at Brussels National Airport in Zaventem, about 100 km away from Liège.
  • Once at the airport, the most convenient mode of transportation to Liège is the train. There are connections between Brussels Airport and Liège-Guillemins station from 5:41 a.m. to 11.59 p.m. on weekdays (timetables vary during the weekend; whatever day you travel on, you will have to change trains once, either in Brussels-North or in Leuven). You can plan your train journey and buy your ticket online on the Belgian Railways website.. When you arrive at Liège-Guillemins, you can take a taxi or bus to the city centre, or take the train to Liège-Palais (closer to the city centre) and walk to the conference venue from there (approximately 7 minutes).

Remarks

  • If you would like to find out which bus you should take, go to the TEC (Public Transport) website and use their “search route” function (‘rechercher un itinéraire’).
  • Should you arrive at an airport other than Brussels Airport, please contact us for additional travelling information.

  • By train

From the UK and continental Europe

  • Liège can be reached by train (either directly or with one/several connection(s)) from many European cities.
  • The city’s main railway station is Liège-Guillemins. When you arrive at Liège-Guillemins, you can take a taxi or bus to the city centre, or you can take the train to Liège-Saint-Lambert (formerly: Liège-Palais) and walk to the conference venue from there (approximately 7 minutes).

Remarks

  • If you would like to find out which bus you should take to go from Liège-Guillemins to your hotel, go to the TEC (Public Transport) website and use their ‘search route’ function (‘rechercher un itinéraire’).
  • Please note that signposts and timetables in Brussels are bilingual (French-Dutch).

Bruxelles-Central    Brussel-Centraal       ‘Brussels-Central’

Bruxelles-Nord        Brussel-Noord            ‘Brussels-North’

  • By car

From the UK and continental Europe

  • Liège can be accessed via several motorways.
  • Car parks near the conference venue include Parking St-Paul (€ 17 per day), Parking Charles Magnette (€ 20.5 per day) and Parking Cathédrale (€ 20.5 per day). On Thursday, you can (with some luck) find free parking spaces at the Boulevard de la Constitution. The conference venue is a 5 to 10 minute walk from there.

Remarks

  • When driving on the motorway, be careful not to be misled by the different (French, Dutch and German) versions of Belgian city names. Here are a few translations you might find useful:

French          Dutch            German

Bruxelles       Brussel        Brüssel

Liège              Luik              Lüttich

Louvain          Leuven        Löwen
